Alexa Web Search Platform: Custom “long tail” searches for blog visitors?

by Steve Broback on December 12, 2005

Alexa manages a network of Web crawlers that constantly gather “a broad representation of Internet content” including text files, images, audio and video files. Every two months they capture a snapshot of the Internet that approaches 100 terabytes in size.

Alexa just announced that they now have a set of APIs and services available to serve as a way to reach into the bowels of this data and serve up custom analysis and results. Could be a platform for content providers who want to create a custom search engine.

I speculate this could be used by bloggers to create a service that scans for content specifically targeted to their audience. From what I read, you need to get a AWSP account and have some experience with a fairly robust programming language. Pricing for access to the service is here.

Here’s a sample custom photo search engine created by the service.

Good Morning,

I have been reading your blog for some months now and have been intrigued by all the information that you have to share.

As a small business owner, I just want to let you knowt that a market exists for someone to “coach” small business bloggers on all the elements that you speak of in here.

I would love to have someone “watching” over my blog and making sure that I am on top of technology and what “tweeks” I may need to make.

Just a hint.
