What Do You Want From Your Business Blog?

by Teresa Valdez Klein on April 12, 2007

If you’re already a business blogger, I want to know what your goals were when you started blogging. How well has your blog been performing thus far?

If you’re just getting into the game, what do you want out of your blog? What platforms are you considering? Are you looking at hosted vs. self-hosted?

I use a proprietary system that we developed for our site. It just never really got popular though. Tons of people come to listen to the podcast content but very few people have taken the time to post messages. I do get telephone calls from people all the time commenting about how great the show is. Peculiar isnt it?

I could spend a couple of minutes posting about my past experiences in getting people to link. I’ve never been one for automated reciprocal systems. They turn me off. I really have no idea if they work or not, but if I’m required to put someone’s link on my site in exchange for a link on their site I just won’t bother. I have a sneaky suspicion that there are others out there that feel the same way I do.

My favorite way to get links is to offer PR for companies in the form of podcasts or articles or interviews. Once you have a site designed that is capable of framing in the content it’s quite easy to get people interested in the idea of talking about themselves.
