Between the thousands of upstart Facebook developers and our very own (dare I say successful?) foray into Facebook applications with BlogTips, it’s becoming virtually impossible to ignore Facebook as a marketing platform.
And since Facebook is the magic everything-platform, there are already tons of great groups for discussing everything from the budding world of marketing in social networks to theories on web 3.0 (yes, 3.0 already!)
At this point however, navigating the group listings in Facebook is a bit of an exercise in frustration. The search feature is pretty limited, and unless you know what you’re after, it’s unlikely you’re going to find it.
So we’ve gone through by hand and compiled a gigantic, rolling list of the best of these groups. This is where the action is at on Facebook, so roll up your sleeves, clean out your keyboard, and get in on the discussion.
Or at the very least, you can look cool by joining them.
If you know of good groups that we’re missing, let us know: ping me on facebook, send me an e-mail (jason [at] blogbusinesssummit.com), or leave a comment below. We’re going to keep updating this list as time goes on, so check back for new additions in the future.
The Groups:
——————–
Facebook for Business - How much sense does it make to use Facebook as a business platform? How do you separate business from personal on Facebook?
Web 3.0 - Wait, Web 3.0? Well, as a matter of fact, the group has a thread addressing just that question.
Social Tools - How does social networking affect productivity? Is it a boon? Is it a curse?
New Media - This is the group on the new media formats - Twitter, SecondLife, Videoblogging…have an opinion? voice it here.
Web 2.0 (Entrepreneurs) - Looking for Web 2.0 work? Looking for web 2.0 talent? Looking to discuss the merits of “web 2.0″ in the first place? You get the idea.
Federated Media - This group is both a place to think about the future of advertising and an example of the kind of engagement that can build brands on Facebook: contribute something useful.
Facebook Marketing - I’m not sure I can say it better than the group description: “A group for marketing professionals to share ideas and information about Facebook as a medium for market amalysis and market development.” Check out the associated Wiki.
Affiliate Marketing Innovation - Affiliate marketing is one of the fields that is definitely in need of morphing online as we head into new types of social media. Here’s the group to discuss those changes.
Affiliate Marketing - How many internet companies have affiliate marketing programs? 3 bazillion? These people hang out in this group.
Advertising & Marketing Circle - A catch-all group for people who study or work in the advertising world. Discussions abound.
The Official Facebook Public Relations Group - Based in New York, this is the 800 pound gorilla of Facebook PR groups with over 1,900 members.
The PR and Communications Network - Technically a group for PR professionals in London, I’m fairly sure that a portion of its members come from outside the area anyway. An active group with discussions and a place for job listings as well.
Social Media Club - Again not something directly related to marketing, but the key to marketing in social media is to understand social media in the first place, and that’s what this group is about.
Web Strategy Group - One of the more active-minded groups on Facebook, it is dedicated to sharing ideas on web strategy with other smart, web-savvy people.
Blog Business Summit - Did you think we would forget? This is the group that’s centered around our conference and what we can collectively learn about blogging, social media, web whatever-dot-oh, and of course, marketing through Facebook.
MeshMinds - The future, and let’s face it, the past of successful business is largely who you know. Mesh is a London-based professional network that’s already engaging on Facebook.
Digital start-ups and investors in Asia - Who says the startup market only exists in America? Check out the thread on where to start looking for VC funding in Asia…
PRWeb - Another top example of engaging on Facebook, the PRWeb group is a direct line for feedback to the PRWeb team, right through Facebook. Go check out the group and leave your thoughts.
Media 2.0 - A group for, as they say “agitators and innovators who believe that the phenomena of democratic participation will change the face of media creation, distribution and consumption.”
